TIPPING OFF
The Arkansas Tech women's basketball team is set to conclude their opening weekend of Great American Conference play on Saturday afternoon and will do so at home against Ouachita Baptist.

This will be the 94
th meeting all-time between Arkansas Tech and Ouachita Baptist in a series that dates back to 1977. Overall, Tech holds a commanding 76-17 lead in the series. Since the two became charter members of the GAC prior to the 2011-12 season, the Golden Suns are 25-3 against UAM.

As conference foes, the two teams met twice last season in the regular season and the Golden Suns emerged victorious in both games, winning 80-77 on the road and 64-62 at home.

Tip-off for Saturday afternoon's game is scheduled for 1 p.m. inside Tucker Coliseum.

TECH(NICALLY) SPEAKING
The Golden Suns are 3-1 overall on the season and are off to a 1-0 start in GAC play thanks to a 58-48 win on the road at Arkansas-Monticello this past Thursday night. The conference-opening win also has the Golden Suns on a modest two-game winning streak as they also recently beat Arkansas-Fort Smith on the road, 73-65.

Early on, the Golden Suns average 76.5 ppg and rank third in the GAC. On the defensive end of the court, the Golden Suns rank 10th in the league in scoring defense, giving up an average of 65.5 ppg. In terms of field goal percentage and field goal percentage defense, the Golden Suns are fifth in the conference as they shoot at an overall clip of .426 (110-of-258) and are limiting their opponents to a .381 mark (88-of-231) to rank 8th.

From beyond-the-arc, the Golden Suns shoot at a clip of .306 (19-of-62) to rank eighth in the GAC while their opponents make three-pointers at a mark of .281 (25-of-89) to rank seventh. From the free throw line, the Golden Suns shoot .705 as a team (67-of-95) to rank seventh.

Individually, the Golden Suns have three players averaging double figures and two more that are at least at 8.0 ppg.
Alex Hill currently leads the team in scoring at 17.8 ppg. Behind her is
Pacious McDaniel at 17.3 ppg.
Hayleigh Wyrick rounds out double-figure scoring at 10.5 ppg while
Dana Thompson is just off the double-figure average mark at 9.0 ppg.

McDaniel is also the team-leader in rebounding and is averaging 7.3 rebounds per game. In terms of assists,
McDaniel and
Hill lead the team and are averaging 2.5 assists per game.

Defensively, the Golden Suns are led in steals by
McDaniel at 2.5 steals per game and in blocks by
Sarah Edmondson at 0.8 blocks per game.

The Golden Suns are coached by
Dave Wilbers, who is in his 17th season as Tech. During his time at Tech,
WIlbers has amassed a 345-122 overall record. Nine times,
Wilbers has won 20 or more games at Tech and twice has won 30 or more. In terms of national rankings, a
Wilbers-led team has been nationally-ranked at any point in a season 10 times. Among those, he has guided the Golden Suns to the top of the rankings on a pair of occasions during the 2010-11 and 2011-12 seasons.

SCOUTING THE TIGERS
Ouachita is 2-3 overall this season and are off to a 0-1 start in GAC action as they lost at home this past Thursday against Harding, 75-55. The Tigers are also currently in a three-game losing skid, dropping games to Pittsburg State, UT Tyler and Harding.

Statistically, the Tigers average 67.4 ppg and rank eighth in the GAC. On the defensive end of the court, the Tigers rank ninth in the league in scoring defense, giving up an average of 62.4 ppg. In terms of field goal percentage and field goal percentage defense, the Tigers are ninth in the conference as they shoot at an overall clip of .381 (122-of-320) and limit their opponents to a .398 mark (103-of-259) to rank 10th.

From beyond-the-arc, the Tigers shoot at a clip of .281 (36-of-128) to rank 10th in the GAC while their opponents make three-pointers at a mark of .347 (33-of-95) to rank 12th. From the free throw line, the Tigers shoot .722 as a team (57-of-79) to rank sixth.

Laney Mears and her 14.8 ppg. Outside of
Mears, Ouachita has three other players averaging at least 7.0 ppg.
Heidi Robinson and
Grayson Fairless are the next two in scoring at 8.6 and 8.4 ppg, respectively.

Joey Babel leads the team and is averaging 2.6 assists per game.

Mears at 3.2 steals per game and in blocks by
Fairless at 1.0 blocks per game.

Robert Dallimore, who is in his fifth season at Ouachita as head coach. A coach with nearly 30 years' experience,
Dallimore spent the decade prior to coming to Ouachita as the associate head coach at UALR under former Golden Suns' legendary head coach
Joe Foley.
