RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – The Arkansas Tech volleyball team capped a week-long, three-match homestand on Friday afternoon against East Central. Tech would lose the match in straight sets.
Set one featured significant scoring runs by both teams. Unfortunately, the biggest run was turned in by the Tigers and came late in the set. With Tech leading by four points, 18-14, ECU ripped off a 9-1 run to surge ahead 23-19. The Golden Suns would score the next two points to get within two of the lead, but consecutive points by ECU closed out the set.
Set two was controlled from the outset by the Tigers. The Golden Suns would not go down in the set without a fight. Trailing by 11 at 23-12, the Golden Suns scored seven of the next eight points to cut the deficit down to five, but ECU then got the final point to win the set, 25-19.
Momentum from the end of the second set carried over into set three for the Golden Suns as they were positioning themselves to possibly win the set and extend the match. However, the Tigers had one final major run in them and flipped a 23-19 deficit into a match-ending 25-23 score with six-straight points.
The Golden Suns will now prepare for one final non-conference match as they are set to travel to Springfield, Missouri on Tuesday, October 24 to take on Drury. First-serve is scheduled for 6 p.m.
