OFFICIAL RESULTS
In singles action, the Golden Suns picked up four wins in the opening round across both the Main A and Main B brackets. Winning in Main A was
Lea Grinberg. Seeded in the top-16 of that bracket, Grinberg won her first match 6-3, 6-1 over Lucia Casas Blas.
In the Main B bracket,
Maggie Holcomb,
Meaghan Butler and
Isabella Major were all winners in their opening match. Holcomb won 6-2, 6-1; Butler won 6-3, 6-3 and Major won 6-2, 6-2.
Out of the opening round singles winners, Holcomb would be the only one to advance to the round of 16 after she won her round of 32 match against Thi Huynh 6-0, 6-1.
After dropping their initial singles matches,
Madalena Amil,
Daniela Baez and
Melanie Griffiths all made runs in the consolation bracket.
Baez would reach the quarterfinals before being defeated by teammate Amil. That win over Baez pushed Amil through to the semifinals, but her run in the consolation A bracketed ended there.
In consolation B bracket, Griffiths made it all the way to the finals. She would narrowly lose that match 1-4, 5-3 [8].
On the doubles front, the Golden Suns had a pair of teams in both draws. In Main A,
Aastha Dargude teamed with Amil and Baez and Grinberg paired as a seeded team.
Dargude/Amil would win their first match 8-4, but lost the next 0-8. Baez/Grinberg dropped their first match 2-8, but advanced to the quarterfinals in the consolation bracket.
In Main B doubles, the team of Butler/Holcomb won their first two matches to reach the quarterfinals. They would lose that match, however, 2-8. Griffiths/Krite fell to the consolation bracket after dropping their first match. In the consolation bracket they would win their first match outright 6-3 and then advanced to the semifinals due to injury withdrawal by their opponents. That outcome was flipped as Griffiths and Krite did not play the semifinal match to injury withdrawal.
The Golden Suns will now prepare for their second weekend of action coming up at the Rumble by the River, hosted by Northeastern State. It will be a two-day event and run from Friday, September 30 – Saturday, October 1.
