RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. - The Arkansas Tech volleyball team returns to action in Shawnee, Okla. this weekend as they prepare for the Oklahoma Baptist Tournament where they will face four total opponents across the weekend. The Golden Suns currently sit at a 1-4 overall record.
The first match of the weekend Tech will face UT-Tyler at 9 a.m. on Friday morning. Last season, UT-Tyler went 20-4 overall with a 15-2 record in conference play. This season, the Patriots are currently 1-3 and lost 0-3 in their last game against Colorado School of Mines. This will be the first time Arkansas Tech and UT-Tyler face off in a volleyball match.
Next up will be Texas A&M-Kingsville to serve as the second match on Friday. Last season, Texas A&M-Kingsville went 13-10 overall with a 7-10 record in conference play. The Javelinas currently stand at 2-2 this season picking up a win over New Mexico Highlands in their last outing. The Golden Suns are 1-2 all-time against the Javelinas and dropped their last matchup against them 0-3 on September 3, 2016. The match against Texas A&M-Kingsville will be at 3 p.m. on Friday afternoon.
St. Edwards will be the third opponent of the weekend for Arkansas Tech and will take place at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday morning. Last season, St. Edwards went 16-12 overall and posted an 8-9 record in conference play. Currently, the Hilltoppers are 0-4 and lost a close 2-3 match against Edward Waters (Fla.). Looking at the match history between the teams, the Golden Suns are 3-0 all time against the Hilltoppers and picked up a 3-0 win in their last matchup on September 15, 2017.
The final match of the weekend tournament for Arkansas Tech will be against Newman. Last season, Newman went 9-17 overall with a 5-15 record against conference opponents. So far this season, the Jets stand with a 3-1 record and picked up a 3-1 win in their last outing against Truman State. All-time, the Golden Suns and the Jets are tied both earning a pair of wins with Tech picking up the most recent one with a 3-1 win on September 6, 2019. The Golden Suns will play their final match of the weekend against Newman at 12:30 p.m. Saturday afternoon.

Maddi Siedenburg leads the offensive attack with 35 kills on the season thus far. Following Siedenburg is
Heather Thomas with 34 and
Lydia Hale with 27. Pacing the Tech offense is
Gracie Palmer with 74 assists on the year. Palmer is followed by
Brianna Merkel with 48 assists. In terms of aces, Palmer and
Jamie Myrick lead the team with nine each.
On the defensive end,
Megan Solberg leads the effort in digs with 75 on the season. Myrick and Palmer follow Solberg with 53 and 34 digs, respectively. Locking down the front of the net is Thomas with 14 total blocks on the year. Following Thomas is the pair of Hale and
Zoe Lott each putting down 10 blocks for the season so far.
