RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – The Arkansas Tech women's tennis team is set to return to action for the first time in just under three weeks as they play host to Angelo State on Thursday, April 7 out at the Chartwells Women's Sports Complex. First-serve is scheduled for 2 p.m.
The lengthy lull in the schedule for the Golden Suns has come as misfortune as they had a washed-out spring break trip that left the team without a pair of scheduled matches. The Golden Suns also had a previously scheduled road match last week at Texas A&M-Texarkana canceled due to not enough participating players at TAMU-Texarkana.
In all, the last time the Golden Suns played a match was on the road back on March 17 when they opened Great American Conference play in dominant fashion beating Ouachita 6-1.
Overall, the Golden Suns are 5-4 on the season and are 4-0 in home matches.
In terms of rankings, the Golden Suns still have their top-flight singles player in the latest ITA rankings as
Lea Grinberg ranks 54
th in Division II. Grinberg is also ranked in doubles action with partner
Daniela Baez. The duo are ranked No. 37.
Their opponent, Angelo State, enters with a 10-5 overall record and have won their last two matches. Both of those came in Lone Star Conference action as the Rambelles beat Dallas Baptist 7-0 and Midwestern State 4-3.
Angelo State has a singles player ranked in the latest ITA Division II rankings in Dianela Rodriguez. She is currently ranked No. 17 and at the time of the ranking was 13-3 in her matches against Division II competition.
The Rambelles also have a doubles team in the rankings as the pairing of Valentina Gonzalez Ramirez and Ena Ovcina rank No. 15. Their doubles record at the time of the ranking was 14-5.
