Wonder Boys drop doubleheader in extra innings against Harding

SEARCY, Ark. – The Wonder Boys baseball team (25-20, 15-16 GAC) faced the Harding Bisons (30-17, 20-12 GAC) in their final double header of the regular season. It was a long Friday night at Jerry Moore Field with both games going to extra innings (10), ultimately being edged out in the first two games.
 
GAME ONE (0-1)
In the opener, neither the Wonder Boys nor the Bisons gave up any runs through nine innings of play – leading to the bottom of the 10th when a double down the left field line would be end up being the Bisons' winning lead.
 
Owen Martin advanced on a wild pitch, and following two outs, a single from Cody Smith through the right side allowed enough room for Martin to score and finalize the game 0-1.
 
Sam Stephenson hauled in three of the five hits for Arkansas Tech with Trace Maddux claiming the other two.
 
Patrick Miner only allowed three hits and added four strikeouts to his nearing 200 career record.
 
GAME TWO (4-5)
The night-cap saw more action with 8 hits for the Wonder Boys and 13 for the Bisons. Harding gaining an early three-run lead in the bottom of the 1st.
 
The Wonder Boys answered at the top of the third when Trace Maddux singled to center to advance the runners on second and third, Ommar Jackson and Luke Ray, to score two runs.
 
Harding knocked back some momentum and scored one run in the third on a wild pitch bringing the score to 2-4.
 
Action picked back up at the top of the 6th. Josh Detweiler double down the left field line advancing Yadier Medina to third. Pinch hitter Stormy Taylor walked. With bases loaded, Carter Thessing hit a sacrifice fly to advance the runners for Medina to score. A ground out from Luke Ray advanced Detweiler to score on the second out, tying up the score at 4-4.
 
The final score came at the bottom of the 10th when Harding earned a base hit on the second out to score one run, ending the game at 4-5.
 
UP NEXT
The Wonder Boys will close out the Harding road series on Saturday. First-pitch is set for 1 p.m.
