RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. -Â Following their 3-0 weekend series sweep over the Rangers of Northwestern Oklahoma State last weekend, the Arkansas Tech softball team returns to Chartwells Women's Sports Complex for the final three-game conference series of the regular season as they host Southeastern. The series will open with doubleheader action on Friday with first pitch set for 3 p.m. that afternoon. The series will wrap with a single game on Saturday. First pitch for Saturday's game is currently TBD.
While this is the last weekend of the regular season, the Golden Suns have already claimed a spot in the Great American Conference Tournament which will take place next week.
Currently, Arkansas Tech sits at No. 2 in the GAC standings and are tied with Southern Arkansas for the best conference record at 24-6. In the most recent release of the NCAA Regional Rankings that came out on Wednesday afternoon, the Golden Suns are the highest ranked team in the conference at fifth for the Central Region.
SCOUTING THE SAVAGE STORM
Entering the weekend, Southeastern is 29-22 overall with an 18-12 record in conference play and are coming off a 3-0 series sweep at home against Henderson State. The Savage Storm are also riding a six game win streak. Against GAC opponents the Savage Storm have picked up series wins against Southern Nazarene, East Central, Northwestern Oklahoma, Arkansas-Monticello, Southwestern Oklahoma, Ouachita Baptist and Henderson State.
As a team, the Savage Storm are hitting .289 so far this season (383-for-1323) with 230 runs scored, 70 doubles, eight triples and 25 homeruns. Coming into the series, the Savage Storm have four hitters with at least 100 at-bats hitting .300 or better and are led by Cheyenne Mahy (56-for-162) and Peyton Streetman (53-for-153) both with a .346 average. The other batting average leaders for Southeastern is Kamarie Wallace (46-for-150) and Marilyn Alvarado (35-for-114) who both own a .307 average.
In terms of power numbers, the Savage Storm have nine total players that have hit at least one homerun on the year. Jaleigh Durst leads the team in total homeruns with seven on the year, while Mahy follows behind with five. Wallace has hit four , while Kady Fryrear has three. Alvarado, Gracie Ore, Alexis Lambert, Lauren White and Kyia Monahwee make up the rest of the homerun hitters. The leaders in RBI's is Mahy and Wallace with 34 followed by Fryrear with 31, while Durst rounds out the list with 22 RBI's on the year.
In the circle, the Savage Storm have a team ERA of 4.38 and have struckout 307 in 337.0 total innings.
Three total pitchers have made at least one appearance in the circle this season so far for the Savage Storm. Amberlyn Walsworth leads in starts with 29, while Mahy has started 21. Walsworth is 14-14 with a 4.19 ERA and has struckout 178 in 178.1 innings. Mahy is 15-8 with a 4.32 ERA and has 129 strikeouts in 154.0 total innings.

The Golden Suns enter this weekends three-game conference series against the Savage Storm at 34-16 overall with a 24-6 record among Great American Conference opponents. Tech is coming off a 3-0 conference series sweep at home last weekend against Northwestern Oklahoma State. The Golden Suns are 8-2 in their last 10 games and have nine straight conference series wins against Southern Arkansas, Harding, Arkansas-Monticello, Southern Nazarene, Oklahoma Baptist, Ouachita Baptist, Henderson State, Southwestern Oklahoma State and Northwestern Oklahoma State.
Offensively, the Golden Suns are hitting .283 as a team this season (370-for-1309) with 283 runs scored, 78 doubles, five triples and 61 homeruns. Entering the weekend, the Golden Suns have two batters with at least 145 at-bats hitting .400 or better and are led by Tymber Riley's .436 average (68-for-156). Caitlyn Wells also holds a solid average at the plate hitting .419 on the season (62-for-148).
In terms of power numbers, the Golden Suns boast 13 total players who have notched at least one homer on the year. Leading the charge in homeruns for Arkansas Tech is Riley who has launched 14 on the season. Wells follows behind Riley with 11 busted homers, while Makenzie Goins has whacked 10 and Shelby Chavers has six. Rounding out the list of homerun leaders for the Golden Suns is Holly Crutchfield with five and Brooke Prewitt with four. Leading Tech in RBI's on the season is Riley with 50 and Goins who has collected 44. Closing out the list for the Golden Suns is Wells with 43 RBI's on the season.
In the circle, the Golden Suns have a 2.09Â team ERA and have struckout 297Â batters in 332.1Â total innings.
Eight total pitchers have made at least one appearance inside the circle for Arkansas Tech so far this season. Shannon Lasey leads the team in starts with 25. Bailey Buffington has 17 starts, while Maddy Prough has started seven games. Lasey is 15-6 when starting in the circle and holds a 1.50 ERA, the best among the Tech starters. The sophomore pitcher has also recorded 115 strikeouts in 126.0 innings pitched and has held opposing bats to just a .181 average at the plate. Lasey hit a career milestone last weekend as she logged her 200th career strikeout against the Rangers. Buffington is 12-6 with a 2.27 ERA and has collected 89 strikeouts in 98.2 innings of work. She is also holding opposing bats at the plate to just a .207 average. Prough is 5-4 with a 2.88 ERA and has struckout 41 in 48.2 innings. Like the other two starters, Prough holds hitters to a low average of .230 at the plate.
In relief, Kaila Cartwright leads the Golden Suns with 24 total appearances, that includes a start and is 2-0 while boasting a 1.59 ERA. Cartwright has managed to log 44 strikeouts in 48.1 innings and leads the Golden Suns in saves with five. Lasey has two saves on the year and Prough has one to round out the group with saves.
