Shipman hits 1,000 career points against Henderson State on Senior Night

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. - The Arkansas Tech Women's Basketball team falls to Henderson State 57-85 on senior night. The Golden Suns drop to 13-12 overall and 10-11 among Great American Conference opponents.

Despite the loss, sophomore guard Kaley Shipman hit a major milestone in her career at Tech becoming the 30th Golden Sun to join the 1,000 career point club . Shipman made the mark in just 69 career games for Arkansas Tech.

Leading the effort against Henderson State was senior guard Tori Lasker with 19 points, two rebounds, four assists and one steal. Closing out the leading players for Arkansas Tech was senior forward Nikki Metcalfe with 12 points, six rebounds and three blocks.

The Reddies opened the game strong controlling the first quarter on both offense and defense outscoring the Golden Suns 25-8.

Both teams shot well in the second quarter of play with Henderson State shooting 47.06% (8-of-17) from the field while Arkansas Tech followed closely behind at 44.44% (8-for-18) from field goal range. The Golden Suns came out on top in three point shooting in the second quarter hitting 33.33% (3-of-9) of their three's while the Reddies shot 25.00% (1-for-4) in the second quarter. Arkansas Tech would head into halftime down 25-46.

The Golden Suns shot 30.77% (4-of-13) from the field in the third quarter while the Reddies shot 42.86% (6-of-14), but the Golden Suns managed to get some good defensive stops to force both sides to score an equal 17 points in the third quarter. Heading into the final quarter of play, Henderson State held a 63-42 lead.

Arkansas Tech won the field goal percentage battle in the final quarter of play hitting 55.56% (10-of-18) of their shots while Henderson State managed to knock down 23.53% (4-of-17) of their shots from the floor. It wouldn't be enough for the Golden Suns however as the Reddies walked away with the 85-57 win in Tucker Coliseum.

The Golden Suns will turnaround and conclude the 2021-22 regular season on the road against Southern Arkansas tomorrow. Tip-off is set for 3 p.m. tomorrow afternoon in Magnolia.
