WEATHERFORD, Okla. – Not a whole lot did not go the way of Southwestern Oklahoma in the final home game of the season on Saturday as they shot blistering percentages from all over the floor en route to beating the Arkansas Tech men's basketball team 113-74 in Great American Conference action.
The opening couple of minutes of the game proved to be a significant foreshadowing of things to come as the Bulldogs (10-14, 9-10 GAC) raced out to an 8-0 lead and connected on a pair of three-pointers. Those were the first two of SWOSU's eventual 20 makes from beyond the arc.
Despite that early surge, the Wonder Boys (9-16, 6-13 GAC) found their footing and tied the game at 11-all by the 16:51 mark of the first half.
A three-pointer by SWOSU quickly followed on the other end and put the Bulldogs back in the lead. The Wonder Boys kept it close over the next 10 minutes of action or so and trailed by just four points, 34-30, with 6:10 left on the first half clock.
The Bulldogs then ripped of a game-changing 11-0 run over the next three minutes of play, swelling their lead to 15 points, 45-30, with 2:56 to go. During that run, SWOSU hit a trio of three-pointers and cashed in one final first half trifecta with 46 seconds left to give them a 16-point lead heading into overtime.
In the second half, the Bulldogs continued to apply pressure on their offensive end and maintained a comfortable lead throughout the remainder of the game.
Individually, the Wonder Boys had three players score in double figures and were led by
Taelon Peter's 20 points off the bench. Seniors
Tony Hall and
Cameron Kennedy were just off that mark and rounded out double-figure scoring with 18 points each, respectively.
The Wonder Boys will now return home for their next two games starting with a Tuesday evening makeup game with Southeastern Oklahoma. That game is scheduled to tip-off at 5:30 p.m. inside Tucker Coliseum.
