Golden Suns gear up to play Ouachita Baptist on the road

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. - Following their excellent week this past week where they went undefeated with a 2-0 record and also claimed a spot in the Great American Conference Tournament, the Arkansas Tech volleyball team looks to close out the final week of the regular season strong as they begin with a road match against Ouachita Baptist. 

So far this season, the Tigers have a 16-11 overall record while holding an 8-6 record against conference teams. In their last match, Ouachita was swept by Harding 0-3 on the road in Searcy. 

This will be the second time this season that the two programs have faced each other with Ouachita winning the last one against the Golden Suns 3-0 in Tucker Coliseum.

Leading the offense for Ouachita is Emily Adams with 264 total kills on the year with a 2.84 kill per set average. Following behind Adams is Riley Braziel with 250 kills also on a 2.84 kill per set average. Kayla Steinmeyer has also contributed a fair amount on offense with 233 kills. Pacing the offense for the Tigers is Courtney Hanson with 908 total assists on the season and she is currently averaging 10.09 assists per set. Hanson also leads the team in aces with 40, while Braziel follows with 31.

On defense, the Tigers are led by Lexie Castillow who is averaging 5.67 digs per set on 505 total digs. Behind Castillow with 238 total digs on a 2.70 dig per set average is Braziel. Joni Schneider has added 212 digs on the year to the Ouachita defense. In terms of blocks, Haley Fairchild leads the Tigers with 11 solo and 56 assisted for 67 total blocks on the season. Karli Ferguson has also had an impact at the net with 61 total blocks.

Moving to the Golden Suns, Maddi Siedenburg leads the offensive attack with 196 total kills, on a 2.80 kill per set average. Following Siedenburg is Heather Thomas with 184 kills on the year while averaging 1.90 kills per set. Kaitlyn Neal slots in right behind Thomas with 154 kills on the season and Brianna Merkel has also contributed on the attack with 152  total kills on the season thus far. Pacing the offense is Merkel with 374 assists, while averaging 4.40 assists per set. Gracie Palmer averages 3.56 assists per set and has set set up 342 total assists. In terms of service aces, Jamie Myrick leads the team with 36, while Megan Solberg has 34.

Anchoring the Golden Suns on defense is Solberg with 406 digs on the year and she is averaging 4.19 digs per set. Myrick has also added plenty of help on defense with 249 total digs on a 2.59 dig per set average. Holding down the front of the net for the Golden Suns is Thomas with 15 solo blocks and 60 assisted blocks, for 75 total on the season and is averaging 0.77 blocks per set. Following behind Thomas, at the front of the net, is Lydia Hale with 32 total blocks, while Sierra Orton has 28.

The match against the Tigers is set for a 6 p.m. first serve tomorrow evening in Arkadelphia.
