RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. - The Arkansas Tech Women's Basketball team takes a tough 71-105 loss against Southwestern Oklahoma State at home in Tucker Coliseum. The Golden Suns move to 8-7 overall with a 5-6 record in GAC play.
Leading the scoring effort for the Golden Suns was senior guard
Jayana Sanders with 15 points in the contest. Sanders also shot a stellar 7-of-11 from the floor, grabbed six rebounds and picked up four steals. Following Sanders was sophomore guard
Kaley Shipman with 14 points. Closing out the scoring effort for Arkansas Tech was senior guard
Tori Lasker and Freshman guard
Alex Hill with the pair each notching eight points. Lasker also had four assists and two steals against the Bulldogs.
During the first half, the Golden Suns were going shot for shot with the Bulldogs holding their ground and refusing to let them go on a significant run. In the first quarter, Arkansas Tech won in fg shooting going 50% (7-14) from the floor, while limiting Southwestern Oklahoma to 37.5% (6-16) on fg shooting. Both teams shot 33.3% from three in the first quarter. The Golden Suns once again won the fg shooting battle notching 50% (8-16) from the floor, while the Bulldogs shot 41.1% (7-17). Southwestern Oklahoma headed into the break with a narrow three point 38-25 lead over Arkansas Tech.
The Bulldogs came into the second half shooting lights outscoring the Golden Suns 37-18 shooting 66.6% (12-18) from fg range and went an impressive 88.8% (8-9) from long range. The Golden Suns made the most of their chances at the charity stripe in the third quarter shooting 81.8% (9-11) from the line. The hot shooting continued for the Bulldogs in the fourth quarter going 12-of-16 from the floor and 5-of-7 from three. Arkansas Tech hit some solid long range triples of their own as freshman
Julia Reis came off the bench in the fourth quarter and knocked down a trio of long range buckets to score her season high nine points.
The Golden Suns will see their next action this Saturday as they prepare to face Northwestern Oklahoma State in Tucker Coliseum. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m. in Tucker on Saturday afternoon.
