ARKADELPHIA, Ark. - The Arkansas Tech Volleyball team continues their dominant streak with a 3-1 (20-25, 25-16, 27-25, 28-26) on the road against Ouachita Baptist. The Golden Suns move to 10-3 overall and 4-0 in conference play. Tech also notched their seventh straight win in tonight's match against Ouachita.
Leading the offense was senior outside hitter Tymber Riley dishing out 15 kills on the night. Riley came up big on defense for Tech as well with 10 digs earning the senior outside hitter her first double-double of the season. Senior right-side hitter Haylee Paladini also had a strong offensive night with 13 kills. Senior middle blocker Emily Ragsdale and Junior outside hitter Kaitlynn Bradley each had seven kills against Ouachita.Â
Pacing the offense was junior setter Brianna Merkel with 22 assists in the match.
The defensive effort by the Golden Suns was lead by senior libero Madison Grantham with 13 digs. Freshman middle blocker Olivia Crowl and Haylee Paladini had a big defensive night for Tech leading the team in blocks with 5 each. Kaitlynn Bradley followed behind Crowl with four blocks on the night.
During the first set of the match, Tech took an early lead, but multiple runs down the stretch by Ouachita would give them a 20-25 first set win.
Down 1-0 Tech came into the second set with vigor opening with a strong kill from Tymber Riley. Tech continued to control the second set taking 11 of the first 17 points to lead Ouachita 11-6. The Golden Suns stayed strong on the attack with two kills from Abby Simpson and a pair of kills from Ragsdale and Bradley would put them up 18-9 over the Tigers. It was smooth sailing from there with Simpson and Paladini closing out the second set with two kills to give Tech a 25-16 second set win.
The third set was a much tougher battle for the Golden Suns. Ouachita opened strong with an early 6-3 lead. However, Tech went on a 4-0 run capped off by a kill from Crowl to take a 7-6 lead. A kill from Riley and two errors made by Ouachita gave Tech a late 22-18 lead. The Tigers would fight back and force an extended set tying it up at 24. The Golden Suns would prevail and take control of the match with a final kill from Riley to give them a 27-25 third set win over the Tigers.
In the fourth and final set of the match, both sides had another heated battle. This time, it would be Arkansas Tech jumping out with an early 6-3 lead, eventually extending it to a 10-4 lead. A strong 6-0 run by Ouachita would even the score at 10. Both teams continued to battle back and forth all the way down the stretch. A kill by Riley and an ace from Trysta Foster would put the Golden Suns ahead 22-20. Once again, Ouachita found a small run to take a 23-22 lead over Tech. Another extended set was played as Tech would come back to tie it 24-24. Once again the Golden Suns came out on top with a 28-26 final set win and gave them the 3-1 match victory over Ouachita.
The Golden Suns return home to take on Harding on Thursday, September 30 in Tucker Coliseum. The match is set for a 6 p.m. start. The match against Harding will also be pack the stands night.
