RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – Arkansas Tech senior first baseman
Jonathon Arrieta earned his second GAC Player of the Week honor this season as the most-recent conference weekly honors were announced by the league office on Monday.
In earning his second GAC Player of the Week award, Arrieta was a key cog in the Wonder Boys' offensive attack against Harding. For the series, Arrieta hit .600 (6-for-10) with five runs scored, three home runs and seven RBIs, all while not striking out once during the weekend. His slugging percentage and on-base percentages were eye-popping at 1.500 slugging and .636 on-base.
In the series opener, Arrieta was 3-for-3 with three runs scored and three RBIs as he left the yard twice and helped power the Wonder Boys to a 13-3 run-rule victory.
In the next game, Arrieta blasted his third home run of the series and drove in four in what ended up being an 8-4 win for ATU. In the finale, Arrieta went 1-for-3 with a run scored.
Arrieta and the rest of the Wonder Boys are now preparing for their final weekend of regular season action and will host Southeastern Oklahoma. ATU is currently tied for second place, but would be the No. 4-seed if the season ended today through head-to-head tie breakers with Northwestern Oklahoma and Oklahoma Baptist. The Wonder Boys are also one game back of Southern Arkansas for the top-spot in the league standings.
