FIRST PITCH
After almost two-weeks since their last outing, the Arkansas Tech Golden Suns will take the field in the Great American Conference championship tournament in Bentonville. With an overall record of 25-16-1 and a 21-9 record in GAC play, the Golden Suns enter the tournament as the No. 4 seed and will face Southern Nazarene on Friday in the opening game of the tournament at 11 a.m.
During the regular season, the Golden Suns went on a tear, sweeping four consecutive GAC series against Ouachita Baptist, Henderson State, Southwestern Oklahoma State and Northwestern Oklahoma State. The Golden Suns won 17 straight GAC games over the course of six weekends to keep them in the top half of the GAC. Six Golden Suns received all-conference honors and four garnered distinguished scholar athlete recognition.
TECH TIDBITS
Makenzie Addis led the GAC and the Golden Suns with 11 home runs this season, landing her a spot on the All-GAC First-Team.
Caitlyn Wells led the GAC and the team with 13 doubles while hitting .390 (48-for-123) on the season, earning her All-GAC Second-Team recognition.
Shannon Lasey's team leading nine wins and six complete game performance earned her All-GAC Second-Team honors while
Tymber Riley's 10 doubles, five home runs and league-leading 14 hit by pitches solidified her All-GAC Second Team selection as well.
Paty Loredo earned All-GAC honorable mention honors after posting a .324 (34-for-105) batting average and ending her season in the top-3 of the conference with 17 walks drawn.
Maddy Prough rounded out the all-conference honors, being recognized as an honorable mention selection after leading the GAC with six saves and games finished.
In their last outing, the Golden Suns took a game off the then league-leading Savage Storm, 2-0. Lasey went five innings, allowing just one hit before Prough picked up her sixth save of the season.
Abbie Cain led the Golden Suns with three hits, including a triple to right center. Wells then singled to give the Golden Suns the 2-0 lead.
SCOUTING THE CRIMSON STORM
In their first meeting with the Golden Suns, the Crimson Storm swept the series behind a strong effort from the GAC Player of the Year Mahina Sauer. Sauer led the GAC with a .468 (52-for-111) with 11 home runs and 11 doubles. Four other Crimson Storm hitters are hitting .330 or better for the season. Brooklyn Sparkman leads the Crimson Storm pitching staff with a 3.03 ERA and 134 strikeouts.
In their last outing, Southern Nazarene dropped the series against Ouachita Baptist after taking game one but falling in the doubleheader. In the game one win, five Crimson Storm hitters recorded two hits, including a grand slam from Sparkman and homers from Caitlyn Curlee and Hailie Feller.Â
