DURANT, Okla. – Behind a one-hit effort from
Shannon Lasey and
Maddy Prough, the Arkansas Tech Golden Suns took game of the doubleheader against Southeastern Oklahoma State. The Savage tied things up, taking game two.
The teams will face off in the rubber game tomorrow starting at noon.
GAME ONE
The Golden Suns opened the first inning with back-to-back singles form
Tymber Riley and
Abbie Cain but were unable to convert in the top of the inning.
Shannon Lasey then retired three-straight in the first. With two outs in the top of the second,
Makenzie Goins and
Morgyn Fulgham singled before Goins scored on a single from
Arissa Harrish, putting the Golden Suns up 1-0 after two.
Lasey and the Golden Suns' defense kept the Savage Storm scoreless through four innings before the Golden Suns added another run after Cain tripled to right center and scored off a single down the left field line, extending the lead to 2-0. The two runs proved to be enough as
Maddy Prough came in relief in the sixth and retired six consecutive Savage Storm hitters to secure her sixth save of the season.
Cain paced the offense, going 3-for-4 with a triple to right center and a run scored. Riley, Wells, Prewitt, Goins, Fulgham and Harrish each recorded a hit in the game. Lasey allowed just one hit in her five innings of work, striking out two.
GAME TWO
The Golden Suns went down in order to open game two before the Savage Storm put up two runs in the bottom of the first inning. Both teams went scoreless in the second and third innings before the Golden Suns got on the board. Cain drew a walk and advanced to third off a single from Wells before Cain scored on an infield fly from Prewitt.
The Savage Storm put up three more runs, two in the fifth and one in the sixth to secure the 5-2 victory in the second game of the doubleheader.
Kaila Cartwright went five innings, allowing just four hits, striking out five.
