ALVA, Okla. – Five different Golden Suns left the yard with
Makenzie Addis launching two out to left center and center field, to take the series finale in five innings 14-5 and secure their fourth consecutive Great American Conference sweep.
The Golden Suns victory secured their 20th GAC win of the season and moved them to 24-14-1 overall and 20-7 in GAC play going into their final week of regular play.
Arkansas Tech got on the board first in the top of the third inning when
Tymber Riley launched one out of left field.
Abbie Cain and
Paty Loredo knocked singles back-to-back before Cain scored on a sacrifice fly from
Brooke Prewitt, putting the Golden Suns up 2-0. The Rangers posted a run in the bottom of the third to make it 2-1.
The Golden Suns posted another run in the top of the fourth after
Makenzie Goins opened the inning with a double to left field and scored on a sacrifice fly from Abigial Lochala, extending the lead to 3-1. The Rangers tied things up in the bottom of the inning.
The fifth inning put the nail on the coffin when the Golden Suns erupted for 11 runs to secure a run-rule victory in five innings. The scoring frenzy began when the Golden Suns had two outs in the inning. Prewitt homered to left center and was followed directly by a homer from Goins in the same spot to give the Golden Suns a 6-3 lead.
The frenzy continued after singles from
Morgyn Fulgham and
Abigail Lochala and a double from Riley that scored them both. Riley scored off a single from Cain and Cain scored off a single from Loredo. Wells scored herself and Loredo with a bomb to left center. The final runs were scored when Addis knocked her second one out of the fence to center field, scoring Prewitt and securing the run-rule lead.
Maddy Prough picked up her eighth win of the season after coming in during the third inning, striking out two. Six Golden Suns had two hits in the game, highlighted by a season-high six homeruns.
