ALVA, Okla. – After a multi-hit games from
Makenzie Addis and
Makenzie Goins, the Arkansas Tech Golden Suns swept the doubleheader over Northwestern Oklahoma State to clinch the series, taking game one and two 4-2 and 9-2.
The Golden Suns look to sweep the series in the finale tomorrow at 11 a.m. Tech has swept their last three Great American Conference series.
GAME ONE
The Golden Suns got on the board first in the second inning when Addis doubled to left center and scored when
Morgyn Fulgham singled to left field. The Rangers answered back in the bottom of the fifth.
Tech extended their lead in the top of the sixth after
Caitlyn Wells singled up the middle and
Brooke Prewitt followed with another single up the middle. Addis stepped up to the plate with two runners on and launched a bomb to left field, putting the Golden Suns up 4-1. The Rangers added one more run in the seventh but were not able to come back.
Addis led the team with three RBIs and two hits.
Shannon Lasey went 3.1 innings and did not allow a run off three hits, striking out six.
Maddy Prough picked up her fifth save of the season after going 3.2 innings and striking out four.
GAME TWO
The Rangers grabbed an early one-run lead in the opening inning before the Golden Suns got things going in the top of the third.
Tymber Riley opened the inning with a single and was followed by
Paty Loredo with another single. Riley scored when Wells singled through the left side. Prewitt reached on a fielder's choice before Addis knocked a base-clearing triple to right center to score Prewitt, Wells and Loredo. Goins singled and eventually scored on errors from the Rangers, putting the Golden Suns up 6-1.
The Golden Suns maintained their lead after the Rangers scored one run in the fifth. Tech's final runs were scored in the top of the seventh after Addis reached on a fielding error and advanced to third on a double from Goins. They both eventually scored from a sacrifice fly and throwing error to secure the 9-2 victory in game two.
Goins knocked three hits in the win while Loredo, Wells and Addis each had two hits.
Kaila Cartwright threw a complete game, allowing just two runs off six hits while striking out six.
