FIRST PITCH
The Arkansas Tech Golden Suns travel to Northwestern Oklahoma State this weekend to face off against the Rangers in a doubleheader starting at 11 a.m. on Saturday and the series finale starting at 11 a.m. on Sunday.
The Golden Suns are sitting in third place in the regular season standings with an overall record of 21-14-1 and a 17-7 record in Great American Conference Play. The Golden Suns have swept their last three GAC weekend series against Ouachita, Henderson State and Southwestern Oklahoma State.
TECH TIDBITS
In their last outing, the Golden Suns took down Southwestern Oklahoma in the series finale, 2-1 to secure the series sweep after taking both games in the doubleheader the day before. The Bulldogs got on the board first before the Golden Suns answered in the bottom of the second.
Caitlyn Wells opened the inning with a double to left center and
Brooke Prewitt followed with a single through the right side. A double from
Makenzie Addis scored Wells and a ground out from
Morgyn Fulgham scored Prewitt to put the Golden Suns up 2-1. The early scoring proved to be enough as both teams went scoreless in the final five innings.
Wells leads the conference with 12 doubles this season and
Tymber Riley is tied for second in the conference with 28 runs scored. Addis is tied for third with eight homeruns after a monster grand slam against the Bulldogs.
Maddy Prough and
Shannon Lasey each have seven wins on the season, with Prough leading with 68 strikeouts.
SCOUTING THE RANGERS
The Rangers enter the weekend with an 8-25 overall record and a 3-24 record in GAC play. Northwestern Oklahoma dropped their last series to Harding. The Rangers have a series win over Arkansas-Monticello earlier in the year.
Hannah Howell leads the Rangers with a .390 (39-for-100) batting average followed by Mesa Gann at .350 (14-for-40) as the two Rangers hitting .300 or better. Allison Johnson leads the team with 11 doubles and Jayden Solberg joins Howell at the top with five home runs on the season.
