RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – Caitlyn Wells went three-for-three in the series finale to help lead the Arkansas Tech Golden Suns to a 2-1 victory, securing the series sweep over Southwestern Oklahoma State. The sweep marks the third consecutive conference sweep for the Golden Suns in their last three weekends.
The Golden Suns will hit the road to face Northwestern Oklahoma State in a doubleheader on Friday starting at 3 p.m. followed by the series finale on Saturday at 11 a.m.
The Bulldogs managed to strike first in the top of the first inning, taking a 1-0 lead. The Golden Suns retired in order in the bottom of the inning. After a single to start the second,
Shannon Lasey forced the Bulldogs into two ground outs and struck out the last hitter she faced.
The Golden Suns opened the second inning with a double to left center from Wells, followed by a single through the right side from
Brooke Prewitt.
Makenzie Addis doubled down the left field line to score Wells and Prewitt scored the next play, to put the Golden Suns up 2-1 after two innings.
Early offense and strong pitching from
Maddy Prough proved to be enough for the Golden Suns as the teams went without scoring for the rest of the game. Prough struck out five and did not allow a run off two hits in her five innings of work. Addis joined Wells in a multi-hit performance with a single and a double.
