Golden Suns secure series win, sweeping doubleheader over SWOSU

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – Behind the strong offensive showings from Tymber Riley and Makenzie Addis, the Arkansas Tech Golden Suns secured a series win over Southwestern Oklahoma State by sweeping the doubleheader on senior day, 8-1 and 12-4.
 
The Golden Suns will look for the series sweep on Monday with the series finale at noon at the Chartwells Women's Sports Complex.
 
GAME ONE
Southwestern Oklahoma State got on the board first in the opening inning, before the Golden Suns answered in the bottom of the first. Tymber Riley opened the inning with a single through the left side before Abbie Cain reached on a fielder's choice. Riley scored when Paty Loredo reached on a fielder's choice and Cain scored when Brooke Prewitt reached on a fielder's choice to put the Golden Suns 2-0 after one.
 
Shannon Lasey worked out of a jam in the top of the second before the Golden Suns loaded the based in the bottom of the second. Morgyn Fulgham singled to right field, Arissa Harrish singled to left field and Riley singled to right field but Tech could not convert. Both teams went scoreless in the third.
 
Makenzie Goins tripled to center field to start off the fourth and scored on a double from Fulgham. Harrish executed a perfect sacrifice bunt to advance Fulgham before Riley doubled to right center to score Fulgham. Cain singled to left center and Loredo drew a walk to load the bases before a single to center field from Wells scored Cain and Riley. Prewitt knocked a double to left center to score Loredo and extend the Golden Suns lead to 7-1.
 
A rain and lightning delay stalled the teams for over an hour in the top of fifth after Lasey recorded the first wo outs of the inning before Lexy Taylor forced a ground to end the inning, leading 7-1. The Golden Suns tacked on another run when Sydney Keaton stole home after pinch running for Wells, securing Tech's 8-1 victory.
 
Riley went 3-for-5 in game one with a double and an RBI. Fulgham knocked two hits of her own, with a double and an RBI. Wells and Prewitt led with 2 RBIs apiece. Lasey went 4.2 innings, striking out six and allowing just one run on three hits. Taylor went 2.1, allowing just one hit and striking out two.
 
GAME TWO
The Bulldogs opened the inning with a double and scored on an error from the Golden Suns. Riley stepped up to the plate and a solo bomb to left field to start the inning. Cain drew a walk before advancing to third after a double from Loredo. Wells followed with a walk and Prewitt's single to the left side scored Cain. With bases loaded, Makenzie Addis blasted a grand slam to left field, putting the Golden Suns up 6-1 after one.
 
Southwestern Oklahoma State scored in the top of the second and third to pull within two after the third. Addis drew a walk and advanced to third on a single from Goins before scoring on a double play, extending the lead three, 7-4.
 
The Golden Suns sealed the victory in the sixth inning when they posted five runs to extend the lead to eight. Goins opened the inning with a single and Harrish and Riley drew back-to-back walks and Cain popped up a sacrifice fly to score Goins. A throwing error from the Bulldogs scored Riley and Harrish before Wells singled up the middle. Holly Crutchfield and Keaton pinch ran for Loredo and Wells, with Crutchfield scoring on a single from Prewitt and Keaton scoring the last run off a walk-off single from Addis. The Golden Suns secured the series win with a 12-4 victory in game two of the doubleheader.
 
Prewitt, Addis and Goins all registered multiple hits in game two, highlighted by Addis' grand slam in the first inning. Maddy Prough earned her sixth win of the season after going 3.2 innings and striking out five and allowing just one hit.
