FIRST PITCH
The Golden Suns are back on field in their final regular season games at Chartwells Women's Sports Complex. Arkansas Tech will face off against Southwestern Oklahoma State in a three-game Great American Conference series. Due to forecasted weather, the teams will play a doubleheader on Sunday, starting at noon, with Senior Day celebration in between the games. The series will conclude
The Golden Suns enter the weekend series with an 18-14-1 overall record after ending their last game in a tie with #22 Rogers State due to lightning. Tech is also sitting at third in the regular season standings with a 14-7 record in GAC play after sweeping their last two conference series against Ouachita Baptist and Henderson State.
TECH TIDBITS
In their last outing, the Golden Suns played in a doubleheader against #22 Rogers State. The Golden Suns fell in game one before trying to split the doubleheader in game two. Arkansas Tech got on the board first after Brooke Prewitt drew a walk, stole second and advanced to third on a throwing error. Mackenzie Goins drew a walk before a single from Morgyn Fulgham scored Prewitt. Goins scored on a passed ball to put the Golden Suns up 2-0 in the second inning. The Hillcats tied things up in the fourth before lightning ended the game, tied in the sixth.
The Golden Suns have three hitters hitting .300 or better, led by Caitlyn Wells at .379 (36-for-95). Brooke Prewitt is second on the team with 28 hits and Tymber Riley leads the team with 24 runs scored. Maddy Prough leads the pitching staff with 60 strikeouts followed closely by Shannon Lasey with 53. Kaila Cartwright ERA of 1.85 leads the Golden Suns.
SCOUTING THE BULLDOGS
Southwestern Oklahoma State enters the weekend with a 9-17 overall record and a 9-12 record in GAC play. The Bulldogs have series wins over Southern Nazarene and Northwestern Oklahoma State. In their last outing, the Bulldogs took the series finale from the top team in the GAC, Southeastern Oklahoma State, 6-2.
The Bulldogs have six hitters hitting over .300 for the season, led by Hannah Franklin at .369 (24-for-65) and eight homeruns. Breanna Simmons paces the offense with 34 hits, eight of those being doubles and 22 RBIs. Miranda Grover leads the pitching staff with 26 strikeouts and nine complete games this season.
