CLAREMORE, Okla. – In a midweek matchup against another top-25 program, the Arkansas Tech Golden Suns almost split a doubleheader, dropping game one against Rogers State 7-3, before ending game two early, in a tie due to weather.
The Golden Suns will be back in action on Friday against Southwestern Oklahoma State in their final Great American Conference series at the Chartwells Women's Sports Complex this season.
GAME ONE
The Hillcats got on the board first in the bottom of the opening inning, scoring two runs. The Golden Suns went down in order in the second, third and fourth inning before
Makenzie Addis doubled to right field in the top of the fifth.
Makenzie Goins followed with a single to center field before
Morgyn Fulgham flew out to right field and scored Addis.
Paty Loredo launched a bomb to left field in the top of the sixth to pull the Golden Suns within four, 6-2. Rogers State added another run in the bottom of the sixth to extend their lead =, 7-2. Addis got hit by a pitch in the top of the seventh before Goins singled to right field and Fulgham singled to center.
Tymber Riley drew a walk to force a run with Addis, giving the Golden Suns their final run of the game.
GAME TWO
The Golden Suns struck first in game two.
Brooke Prewitt drew a walk before stealing second and advancing to third on a throwing error. Prewitt scored two plays later after a single down the first-base line from Fulgham. After drawing a walk Goins scored on a based ball and throwing error to put the Golden Suns up 2-0.
Rogers State answered in the bottom of the fourth, putting up two runs to tie things 2-2 after four innings. Entering the sixth inning, the game was called a tie due to lightning in the area.
