Golden Suns post season-high hits in doubleheader sweep of Henderson State

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – The Arkansas Tech Golden Suns continued their sweeping ways, taking down the Henderson State Reddies in both games of the doubleheader, 8-6 and 7-5. The wins extended the Golden Suns win streak to eight, after sweeping Ouachita last weekend and Harding in a midweek doubleheader.

The Golden Suns will face off against the Reddies in a doubleheader on Sunday, starting at noon. Game one will be played as the final game of the three-game GAC series and game two will count as a nonconference matchup.

GAME ONE
The Golden Suns got on the board in the top of the opening inning after Brooke Prewitt singled up the middle to score Tymber Riley. Makenzie Addis singled up the middle to score Prewitt and put the Golden Suns up 2-0 after the first.

Arkansas Tech extended their lead in the third inning when Makenzie Goins singled to right field to score Caitlyn Wells before Prewitt scored on a wild pitch. Mogryn Fulgham launched a three-run bomb to left field scoring Goins and Addis. The homer put the Golden Suns up 7-0 after three innings.

Henderson State got on the board in the third, pulling within one run, 7-6. Riley singled to right field scored Addis and secured a two-run lead, 8-6 in the top of the seventh. Maddy Prough picked up her fifth win of the season, going 5.0 innings and striking out four.

GAME TWO
Like game one, the Golden Suns were the first on the board, scoring two runs in the top of the first inning after Prewitt singled to left field, scoring Paty Loredo. After loading the bases, Wells scored after Goins reached on a fielder's choice, putting the Golden Suns up 2-0.

Reisa Bakenhus knocked a single to center field scoring Goins and Addis in the top of the third, extending the lead to 4-0. The Reddies got on the board in the fifth with two homers before Prewitt scored on a single from Goins in the sixth, going up 5-2.

Henderson State scored in the sixth before Wells singled to score Abbie Cain and Loredo for the Golden Suns final two runs, extending the lead 7-3. The Reddies tacked on two more runs in the bottom of the seventh but the Golden Suns held on to a 7-5 victory.
