RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – Behind a two-hit, complete game from
Shannon Lasey the Arkansas Tech Golden Suns took down the Ouachita Tigers, 5-1 in game one of the three-game Great American Conference series.
The Golden Suns look to take the series tomorrow with a doubleheader against the Tigers starting at noon at the Chartwells Womens Sports Complex.
Arkansas Tech got on the board first when
Caitlyn Wells led off the bottom of the second with a single to left center and advanced on a passed ball. A double from
Brooke Prewitt doubled to left center, scoring wells before a bunt from
Arissa Harrish scored Prewitt, putting the Golden Suns up 2-0.
Tymber Riley opened the bottom of the third with a double to center field, followed by a single down the left field line from
Abbie Cain and
Paty Loredo drawing a walk. Wells drove both Riley and Cain in with a double to right center and Prewitt popped up a sacrifice fly to score Loredo, giving the Golden Suns a 5-0 lead.
Lasey kept the Tigers scoreless until the sixth inning, where they registered their second hit of the night, a homer to center field. Ouachita went down in order in the top of the seventh, two by way of strikeouts and a fly out to secure the 5-1 win for the Golden Suns.
Harrish led Arkansas Tech, going 3-for-3 with an RBI, followed by Cain and Wells with two hits apiece. Wells and Prewitt notched two RBIs and two doubles each in the win. Lasey struckout a season-high 10 strikeouts on the night.
