MAGNOLIA, Ark. – The Arkansas Tech women's tennis team had their four-match winning streak come to a close on Tuesday afternoon at (RV) Southern Arkansas as they lost to SAU in a non-conference match by a score of 6-1.
That team score was not indicative of how close the match actually was between the Golden Suns (4-3) and the Lady Muleriders (2-7).
In doubles play, the Lady Muleriders would come away with the team point with wins at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles. At the top flight, SAU defeated the Tech duo of
Michelle Khoo and
Aastha Dargude. 6-3. At No. 3 doubles, The Golden Suns pairing of
Megan Bell and
Isabella Major forced a tie-breaking set, but ultimately lost the tie-breaker 7-4. The win for the Golden Sun in doubles play came at No. 2 doubles as
Lea Grinberg and
Daniela Baez won their match 6-2.
In singles play, the Golden Suns had four matches (No. 1, No. 2, No. 3 and No. 4 flights) go to a decisive third set. They also had three sets go to a tie-breaker. The only one of those matches that went to a third set that was won by the Golden Suns was at No. 3 singles as Dargude won 6-4, 4-6, 7-5.
The Golden Suns will now prepare for their first conference match of the season at home against Ouachita. That match is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, March 17 at 2 p.m. at the Chartwells Women's Sports Complex.
