RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – Appearing in their ninth-consecutive Great American Conference semifinal game, the No. 17-ranked Arkansas Tech Golden Suns and GAC Eastern Division Regular Season Champions battled valiantly with the Southeastern Oklahoma State Savage Storm in the Great American Conference championship tournament semifinals but ultimately fell, 68-58, inside Tucker Coliseum.
Despite the loss, the Golden Suns are still in contention for an at-large bit into the NCAA regional as they were ranked third in the most-recent South Central Regional rankings. Arkansas Tech now awaits Selection Sunday, which will be streamed on NCAA.com at 9 p.m. (CT).
In the game, the Golden Suns had all eight players score and were led by All-GAC selections
Jayana Sanders and
Kaley Shipman with 10 points each. Three other Golden Suns scored at least seven points including
Sydnee Wynn with eight followed by
Hannah Villines and
Nikki Metcalfe with seven each.
Trelynn Tyler added six points and
Ashlei Lopez and
Jalei Oglesby added five pints apiece.
Villines narrowly missed out on a monster double-double as she grabbed 18 rebounds, a career-high for her and a season-high for any Golden Sun. The 18 boards were also the most by a Golden Sun since Lyrik Williams had 16 rebounds at Ouachita in 2018.
