The Arkansas Tech Golden Suns return to Chartwells Women's sports Complex this week, hosting Ouachita Baptist in a three-game Great American Conference series. A single game is scheduled for Thursday at 5 p.m. and a doubleheader on Friday starting at noon.
The Golden Suns enter the series with a 9-13 overall record and a 7-7 record in GAC play. Arkansas Tech grabbed series wins over East Central and Arkansas-Monticello.
TECH TIDBITS
In their last outing, the Golden Suns split the doubleheader against Oklahoma Baptist, falling in game one before bouncing back to take game two, 5-4. Arkansas Tech got on the board first when a single from Catilyn Wells scored
Tymber Riley. The Bison answered back with a run in the third and fifth before the Golden Suns used a single from
Paty Loredo to score
Destiny Sanders and Riley to tie things 3-3.
McKenzie Harrish singled to right field and scored
Brooke Prewitt and
Makenzie Addis scored when Riley reached on a fielder's choice, putting the Golden Suns up 5-3 in the seventh. The Bisons scored another run in the seventh but the Golden
Suns took the game, 5-4.
Robyn Bales picked up her fourth win of the season with the victory.
Abbie Cain continues to step up for the Golden Suns, posting a .393 (11-for-28) average, followed by Wells at .386 (22-for-57) and Loredo at .364 (16-for-44) on the season. Addis leads the GAC with seven homerun this season. Wells leads the Golden Suns with eight doubles and 14 RBIs.
SCOUTING THE TIGERS
Ouachita enters the series with a 13-8 overall record and an 11-6 GAC record with series wins over Oklahoma Baptist, Harding, Southwestern Oklahoma State and Northwestern Oklahoma State. In their most recent series, the Tigers swept the Rangers of Northwestern Oklahoma State, 15-5 (5 inn.), 6-4 and 4-1.
The Tigers are led offensively by five players batting .300 or higher. Callie Jourdan leads the team with a .373 (22-for-59) clip, followed by Hope Waid at .352 (25-for-71), Jillian Jones at .343 (23-for-67), Sloane Precure at .324 (22-for-68) and Heather Brown at .302 (19-for-63). Jones leads with five homers and Precure leads with six doubles. Nikki Schneider paces the pitching staff with a 1.95 ERA and a 5-1 record on the season.
