ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – The Arkansas Tech women's tennis team pushed their winning streak out to four on Wednesday afternoon as they edged out Henderson State on the road in a non-conference match, 4-3.
The thrilling victory for the Golden Suns (4-2) came down to No. 3 singles. After the Golden Suns took the doubles point with wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles, the two teams traded singles victories as the match knotted up at three-all.
The Reddies (1-2) opened up singles play with a win at No. 1 singles and then took a slim 2-1 lead with a win at No. 6 singles.
Daniela Baez captured the first singles point for the Golden Suns with a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 4 singles.
Lea Grinberg then followed with a 6-3, 7-6 (3) win at No. 2 singles to put Tech up 3-2 in the match.
A win at No. 5 singles by the Reddies knotted the match at 3-all, leaving just Dargude's match at No. 3 singles left to be decided.
After dropping the first set 3-6. Dargude rallied back in the second set and won 7-6 (1) to force the tie-breaking third set. In the decisive set, Dargude dominated, winning 6-1 to give the Golden Suns the match.
The Golden Suns will now prepare for another road non-conference match against a usual conference opponent as they will travel to Magnolia on Tuesday, March 9 to take on Southern Arkansas. First-serve is scheduled for 2 p.m.
