RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – The Arkansas Tech Golden Suns took down the Southern Nazarene Crimson Storm in game one of the double-header, 3-1, behind a complete game from
Shannon Lasey, her third of the season. The Golden Suns fell in the final game of the series, 7-2.
GAME ONE
Defense was the name of the game in the first three innings as both teams went scoreless until the fourth inning. The Crimson Storm went down in order in the opening inning.
Abbie Cain singled up the middle before getting out on a double play. A Southern Nazarene batter took a pitch to the foot but the Crimson Storm went scoreless in the second. Arkansas Tech retired in order in the second and the Golden Suns' defense took care of the Crimson Storm in the third.
Southern Nazarene went down in order in the top of the fourth before the Golden Suns got on the board.
Caitlyn Wells singled to the shortstop before
Arissa Harrish pinch ran and
Makenzie Addis reached on a walk. A single from
Brooke Prewitt scored Harrish and Addis to put the Golden Suns up 2-0 in the bottom of the fourth.
Both teams went down in order in the fifth before the Crimson Storm got on the board, scoring off a wild pitch in the top of the sixth, pulling within one, 2-1.
Shannon Lasey worked out of a bases loaded jam to end the inning.
In the bottom of the sixth,
Caitlyn Wells knocked her second hit of the game, doubling down the left field line, before
McKenzie Harrish pinch ran.
Destiny Sanders reached on a fielding error from the shortstop as Harrish scored, putting the Golden Suns up 3-1. Lasey struckout her final batter to finish the game, going a complete 7 innings.
Abbie Cain and
Brooke Prewitt joined Wells with a hit apiece for the Golden Suns four hits in the game. Lasey allowed just one run on four hits, striking out seven in the complete game win.
GAME TWO
The Crimson Storm opened the game, taking a pitch off the foot, but
Robyn Bales settled in and got out of the inning with a strikeout.
Paty Loredo drew a walk but the Golden Suns could not convert in the first. Southern Nazarene went down in the order in the second.
Brooke Prewitt drew a walk and stole second in bottom of the inning, but the game remained scoreless.
Southern Nazarene took another pitch to the foot and reached on a fielding error before a homer drove in three runs, putting the Crimson Storm up 3-0. The Golden Suns answered after
Tymber Riley drilled a double down the left field line and scored off a single from Loredo to put Arkansas Tech on the board. The Crimson Storm added two more runs in the top of the fourth.
Riley reached on an error before scoring off a fielding error after a single from Loredo in the bottom of the fifth. The Crimson Storm managed to score one run in the top of the fifth inning and went scoreless in the sixth before added another run in the top of the seventh.
Abbie Cain knocked a double in the seventh but the Golden Suns were unable to convert, falling 7-2.
