The Arkansas Tech Golden Suns volleyball team will return to the court to take on Ouachita in Tucker Coliseum on Tuesday. The Golden Suns are currently 3-1 in the Great American Conference adapted spring season with wins over Ouachita, Arkansas-Monticello, Henderson State, with their lone loss coming from Harding.
TECH TIDBITS
In their last outing, the Golden Suns dropped their first game of the season to the Lady Bisons of Harding. The Golden Suns took the first set, 25-21 behind four kills from
Rilie Vote and three from
Emily Ragsdale. Pressure from the service line led the Bisons to victory in the second set, 25-15. The third set went extra points, going 30-28 in favor of Harding. The final set saw several lead changes and ties before Harding secured the last three points to take the set 25-23 and the match 3-1. Vote led the Golden suns with 13 kills followed by
Mackenzie Eford with 10.
Brianna Merkel dished out 38 assists and grabbed 17 digs.
Madison Grantham posted a career-high 33 digs in the match.
Addison Masters leads the team with 35 kills this season, followed by
Haylee Paladini and
Mackenzie Eford with 35 and 34 respectively. Â
Brianna Merkel has posted double-doubles with assists and digs in every match this season, averaging 9.80 assists per set and 3.47 digs per set.
Madison Grantham has led the team in digs every match, averaging 6.13 digs per set on the season, good for second in the GAC.
SCOUTING THE TIGERS
Ouachita is even at 2-2 this season with wins over Southern Arkansas and Henderson State and losses to the Arkansas Tech in the opening game of the season and to Arkansas-Monticello. In their last outing, the Tigers came back from an opening set deficit to take down the rival Reddies in four sets.
The Tigers are led by Kayla Steinmeyer, averaging 2.29 kills per set and Emily Low with 2.13 kills per set. Ouachita has multiple setters throughout the season with Kellen Church averaging 6.06 assists per set and Temi Fayiga averaging 4.17 assists per set. Lexie Castillow leads the conference, averaging 6.75 digs per set.
