RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. - The Arkansas Tech Volleyball suffers their first conference loss (22-25, 19-25, 17-25) against Southwestern Oklahoma in Weatherford, Okla. Saturday afternoon. The Golden Suns move to 14-4 overall and 8-1 in conference play.
Leading the Golden Suns offense was senior outside hitter Tymber Riley with a team-leading 9 kills in the match. Junior outside hitter Kaitlynn Bradley added seven kills to the offensive effort. Junior setter Brianna Merkel led the team in assists with 22.
The defensive effort was lead by the pair of Riley and senior libero Madison Grantham. Riley led the team in digs with 13, while Grantham had 8. Bradley and Merkel held down the front line well leading the team in blocks with three each. Senior right-side hitter Haylee Paladini and senior middle blocker Emily Ragsdale also had a strong defensive night at the front with two blocks each.
As a team, the Golden Suns dominated the match with six total team aces, while the Bulldogs had two total. Tech also led the match in solo blocks with three total and had more total blocks than Southwestern Oklahoma with 11. While both sides committed service errors, Tech kept their reception errors very low while Southwestern had six.
The Golden Suns will return home to Tucker Coliseum for their next match against East Central on Friday, October 22. The match is set for a 6 p.m. start. The match against East Central will also be Alumni Night.
