Golden Suns take first in home invitational

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – High winds and below freezing temperatures were no match for the Golden Suns as they dominated Henderson State and Southeastern Oklahoma during the Golden Suns Invitational on Friday. During their first run of the season Arkansas Tech took seven top 10 finishes and all finished in the top 20.
Freshman runner
Morganne Browning took 1st place with an 11:56 run time – followed second by fellow teammate
Ashlynn Mays as well as
Aubre Gilreath – taking third place with 17 points for the Golden Suns.
Kaelyn Dobbins,
Karina Maravillas,
Maria Diaz-Fernandez and
Felicity West blocked off 5th through 8th place – locking down the nearly all of the top 10.
Sophomore
Halle Stringer overpowered Southeastern's Gabriela Luna in the home stretch, earning Stringer 12th place. Sophomore
Abbie Patton took 18th place, followed by Freshman
Kristen Bess for 20th place.
Head coach
Brock Hime emphasized that the work has only begun:
"I want to thank both Henderson State and Southeastern Oklahoma State for coming to Russellville. It was great to toe the line again. Of course, you could see we haven't raced in close to a year but there were also some good things that happened. We've got a lot of work to do, but I'm very happy with where we are at."
The Golden Suns will return January 29th for the Lois Davis Invitational in Magnolia, Ark.
