GOLDEN SUNS CALM THE SAVAGE STORM

DURANT, Okla.Ke'Vonshaye Stackhouse put up 21 points and 10 rebounds for a double-double, leading the Golden Suns to a 70-62 victory of the Southeastern Savage Storm. Following their victory over East Central (81-78) on Thursday, Arkansas Tech stands 13-5 overall and 10-4 in Great American Conference play.

  • The Golden Suns head to Arkadelphia, Ark. to face Ouachita Baptist University, Thursday Feb. 6. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m. 
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Kaley Shipman scored the opening 2-points of the game. She held her stride for a defensive rebound and 2 free throws while Lycia Peevy's 2-point jumper made for a 6-2 lead on the Savage Storm.
  • A lay-up from Ryan Goodsell put the Golden Suns within 4 at 1:11, but Southeastern ended the quarter with a 7-point lead (18-25).
  • At 8:23 of the 2nd, Jayana Sanders breaks up the Savage Storm's stride with a 3-pointer bringing the Golden Suns within 9 (21-30). By the end of the 2nd Arkansas Tech had closed the gap, trailing by 3 (32-35).
  • The Savage Storm held a slim lead during the 3rd outscoring Tech 17-14. Back to back Fastbreak's from Stackhouse put the Golden Suns within 6 to finish the quarter (46-52).
  • Shipman put up a 3-point basket at 5:27 to play in the 4th and tying the game (56-56). Goodsell put up a lay-up ending Southeastern's lead (60-58) with 3:13 left to play.
  • Stackhouse sunk eight more points for the Golden Suns ending the game (70-62).  

NOTABLES:
 
  • Arkansas Tech now tied the lead in Great American Conference standings beside Southeastern, Southern Nazarene and Harding (10-4).
  • Jayana Sanders put up 16 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. Stackhouse shot 6 for 6 from the free throw line.
  • The Golden Suns shot 43.1 to 40.9 percent on SE as well as 87.5 to 50 percent from the free throw line.
  • Arkansas Tech outscored Southeastern 24-10 in the 4th.
