SUNS FALL IN OVERTIME TO HARDING

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. - Ke'Vonshaye Stackhouse turned in a 17-point, 11-rebound double-double, while Jayana Sanders added an 11-point, 11-assist double-double of her own, but the Arkansas Tech Golden Suns basketball team (8-5, 5-4 Great American Conference) was unable to overcome a late surge and multitude of trips to the charity stripe by Harding (8-7, 5-4), falling 75-71 to the Lady Bisons in an overtime matchup on Thursday night at Tucker Coliseum.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Golden Suns controlled the opening minutes of the game, racing out to a nine-point (14-5) advantage just over three minutes into the game. 
  • Harding responded with a strong close to the opening quarter, outscoring Tech 12-3 over the final 6:45 of the quarter to end the first quarter tied at 17. 
  • Tech edged ahead in the second quarter, but a 3-pointer by Abbie Jiles with 3:51 to go until half gave Harding its first lead of the game at 27-25. 
  • Tech responded on the next possession, tying the game on a Kaley Shipman jumper and stretching out its lead to three (34-31) going into the half. 
  • The Golden Suns again stretched the lead to nine (50-41) in the closing minute of the third quarter, and went into the fourth quarter with a six-point (50-44) lead. 
  • The Tech lead reached double digits (56-44) for the first time with 8:14 to play and held a double-digit lead (58-48) at the 6:33 mark, but Harding closed the gap over the next five minutes and pulled ahead with a 3-pointer by Jordan Elder with 1:03 remaining in the fourth quarter.
  • A Lycia Peevy 3-pointer with 43 seconds to play put Tech ahead again, but Harding sunk a pair of free throws with 28 seconds to play to tie the game at 63 and send the contest into overtime. 
  • Sanders buried a 3-pointer early in the overtime to put Tech ahead early, but Harding claimed the advantage with 2:41 to play and would not relinquish it.
NOTABLES
  • The Golden Suns outshot Harding 37.5 to 28.2 percent from the floor, and 30.8 to 23.1 percent from beyond the 3-point arc. However, Harding made 11 more free throws than the Golden Suns attempted during the contest, connecting on 25 of 29 trips to the charity stripe against nine of 14 for the Golden Suns. 
  • Tech held a 56-51 advantage on rebounding.
  • Harding held a 18-8 advantage in points off turnovers and a 14-3 advantage in second-chance points, as well as a 14-9 advantage in fast-break points, but the Golden Suns held a 20-18 advantage in bench points and a 32-30 advantage in paint points.
  • There were eight ties and six lead changes.
