ROLLA, Mo. – Haylee Paladini hit .421 with nine kills for the Golden Suns first win of the season and Allie Anderson turned in 16 kills hitting .244 against Newman University.  Tech's defense outblocked Newman 14-4 in the four set win.

  • The Golden Suns will face host Missouri S&T in their third match at 3:30 p.m. in Gibson Arena in Rolla, Mo.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The teams traded points early in the set but Newman took a 16-12 lead.
  • Tech went on a 6-0 run to take an 18-16 lead after back-to-back blocks from Haylee Paladini and Greer Rogers along with a block from Anyse Smith.
  • The Golden Suns won the last three points to take the set 25-19.
  • Neither team took more than a two point lead in the second set, as Newman took a 20-18 before a Tech timeout.
  • The Golden Suns closed out the 26-24 win with back-to-back blocks by Palladini and Rogers.
  • Newman jumped out to an early 11-16 lead before Tech clawed back to tie it up 20-20 but couldn't hold on as Newman took the set 25-22.
  • The Jets took another early lead 16-13 before sparking a Tech 7-0, forcing a Newman timeout.
  • The Golden Suns held off the comeback taking the fourth set 25-20 after a kill from Anderson.

  • Emily Acker led with 20 assists.
  • Rogers had team-high nine blocks.
