GOLDEN SUNS OPEN CONFERENCE PLAY TUESDAY
RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – The Arkansas Tech Golden Suns volleyball team (3-5) will open the Great American Conference portion of its schedule Tuesday, Sept. 17, at Rhode-Reaves Fieldhouse against reigning GAC champion, Harding, in Searcy, Ark. at 6 p.m.
After a tough opening to the season at the Miner Invitational, the Golden Suns split the weekend at the Rosella Meier Fall Classic this past weekend. The Golden Suns finished the tournament on a high note, turning in their best offensive match of the season.
Anyse Smith leads the GAC, averaging 5.47 kills per set and 6.09 points per set in the first eight matches of the season. Middle blocker
Greer Rogers also leads the GAC, averaging 1.53 blocks per set and fellow middle blocker,
Mackenzie Eford is third in the conference with 1.11 blocks per set. Tech leads the conference in blocks per set.
Allie Anderson (2.95 kills per set) is second on the team in kills and points per set. . Defensively,
Madison Grantham has paced the Golden Suns with 3.33 digs per set.
Harding (5-3) sits atop the conference in hitting percentage and aces. The Lady Bisons have won the last two meetings between the teams and are coming off a GAC Regular Season and Tournament championship. Logan Smith leads Harding with 2.93 kills a set followed by Emily Smith's 2.86 kills per set. Defensively, Katherine Cowart (4.07 digs/set) leads the Lady Bisons while Cooper Monn (.92 blocks per set) has led the way upfront.
Arkansas Tech is 36-40 all-time against Harding.
