WONDER BOYS FALL TO UAM

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. R.J. Glasper turned in a 22-point performance but the Arkansas Tech Wonder Boys basketball team (9-15, 7-11 Great American Conference) could not stop Arkansas-Monticello (15-9, 11-7 GAC), falling 88-69 on Saturday afternoon at Tucker Coliseum.

  • The Wonder Boys will return to action on Thursday, Feb. 21, as Tech travel to Shawnee, Okla. To face Oklahoma Baptist. A 7:30 p.m. tip-off is scheduled. 
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The opening minutes featured four ties after a Mason Cline 3-pointer tied the game at 13-13.
  • UAM used an 11-3 run to go ahead by eight (24-16) at the 9:38 minute mark.
  • Arkansas Tech scored the next six points as back-to-back 3-pointers from Glasper cut the deficit to two (24-22).
  • Alex Brown later tied the game up at 29-29 after hitting a jumper with 5:16 to play in the half.
  • Monticello used a 6-0 run to take a six point advantage (4:08), however two quick 3-pointers from Cline knotted the score up at 35-35.
  • The Boll Weevils went up 46-41 with 47 seconds to play in the opening half, before a Glasper 3-pointer cut the lead to two (46-44).
  • UAM hit a 3-pointer as time expired in the first half, taking a 49-44 lead into the break.
  • Tech opened the second half on a 7-2 run and took its first lead of the game after Glasper hit a jumper at the 17:31 minute mark.
  • UAM retook the lead on the next possession (53-52) and never trailed again in the game. The Boll Weevils went up 63-56 and later used a 10-0 run to claim a 15 point lead with 8:04 left in regulation.
  • Monticello saw it lead grow to as many as 20 points (82-62) before walking away with an 88-69 win.
  • Arkansas Tech was held to 7-of-21 shooting in the second half for 33.3 percent.
NOTABLES
  • UAM outshot Tech 55.6 percent to 45.8 percent.
  • UAM also outrebounded Tech 33-26 and held a 48-18 advantage in points in the paint.
  • Cline was the only other Wonder Boy to reach double digits in scoring with 12 points.
  • Freddy Lee added seven assists.
  • Will Adler scored nine points, going 3-for-8 from 3-point range. With his three made 3-pointers, Adler passed Eric Burnett (1992-93) for the fifth most made 3-pointers in a single season with 97.
