RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. - The Arkansas Tech Golden Suns volleyball team (3-4) will open the home and Great American Conference portion of its schedule tonight at Tucker Coliseum, hosting Southern Arkansas. A 6 p.m. match time is scheduled.
After a rough opening to the season at the Peggy Martin Challenge, the Golden Suns turned in a strong performance at the Holiday Inn Express classic this past weekend, topping Shorter and host Lee University before dropping a five-set thriller to No. 11 Palm Beach Atlantic.Â
The trio of
Allie Anderson (2.64 kills per set),
Hunter Eshnaur (2.31), and
Tymber Riley (2.17) have performed well on offense for the Golden Suns, while setter
Amanda Milnick (8.16 assists per set) has proven to be a dual threat once again, averaging 1.64 kills per set. Defensively,
Meredith Darnell has anchored the back line, averaging 4.12 digs per set while
Hunter Eshnaur has averaged 4.15.
Greer Rogers has led the Golden Suns' blocking efforts, averaging 1.23 blocks per set.Â
Southern Arkansas (3-5) has seen action at a pair of tournaments to open the season, hosting its own event on the opening weekend of the season before traveling to Durant, Oklahoma last weekend. The Muleriders are led offensively by Bailey Cagle (2.43 kills per set), while Fabiola Rivera (5.29 assists per set) and Lexie Kruse (4.29 assists per set) have set the tempo for the offense. Defensively, Camryn Bihary (4.29 digs/set) has anchored the back line while Lauren Smith (0.90 blocks per set) has led the way up front.Â
