ST. CHARLES, Mo. –
Allie Weiner carded a 73 (+1) to lead the No. 24 Arkansas Tech women's golf team to a first place finish following the first round of the NCAA Division II Women's Golf Central Super Regional Championships being played at the Missouri Bluffs Golf Club in St. Charles, Mo. on Monday.
Arkansas Tech as a team fired a 301 (+13) to finish the day with a one stroke lead. The Golden Sun's score of 301 is tied for their fourth lowest round of the season.
In a tightly contested round, four teams finished within five strokes of the tourney lead. Tech beat out No. 25 Augustana (302, +14) by one stroke, No. 34 Southwestern Oklahoma (304, +16) by three strokes, Lindenwood (305, +17) by four strokes, and No. 39 Henderson State (306, +18) by five strokes.
Weiner's score of 73 (+1) is her second-best round of her career and has put her in a tie for seventh place. She finished the day with two birdies and 13 pars.
Peerada Piddon,
Pia Nunbhakdi and
Holly Standing followed behind Weiner as Piddon carded a 75 (+3), Nunbhakdi recorded a 76 (+4) and Standing finished with a 77 (+5). Nunbhakdi also finished with a team-high 15 pars.
The Golden Suns will return to the course tomorrow at 9 a.m. for the second round of the Central Super Regional.
