RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. - The Arkansas Tech Golden Suns softball team is set to open play at the 2018 Great American Conference softball championships on Wednesday, May 2, facing Ouachita Baptist in a 1 p.m. matchup.
All games will be broadcast locally on KARV (610-AM and 101.3 FM), while live audio, video, and statistics are available at www.arkansastechsports.com.
Tech (39-17, 30-14 Great American Conference) enters tournament play as the No. 2 seed after a second-place finish in the regular season, while Ouachita (25-27, 21-23) earned a seventh-place finish and enters play as the No. 7 seed in the double-elimination event.
Regardless of the result of Wednesday's opener, Arkansas Tech will play its second game at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, May 3.Â
The Golden Suns took three of four last weekend at Southwestern Oklahoma, and will be looking to edge ahead in the season series with Ouachita. The two teams previously played March 3-4 in Conway, splitting a four-game series. While the Golden Suns punched their tournament ticket several weeks ago, it was a furious finish to the season for the Tigers that led Ouachita to qualify for Bentonville. OBU won its last six regular-season contests to earn a berth into this weekend's championship event.
All tournament games on Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday will be played at the Tiger Athletic Complex on the campus of Bentonville High School. Thursday's games will be split between Bentonville High School and Bentonville West High School.
