RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. - The Arkansas Tech Golden Suns softball team will return to action on Friday and Saturday, hosting Oklahoma Baptist in a four-game set at the Chartwells Women's Sports Complex. First pitch Friday is set for 3 p.m., while Saturday's doubleheader is slated for a noon start.
Arkansas Tech (20-8, 11-5 Great American Conference) is coming off a series split at Southern Nazarene this past weekend, and sits alone in fourth place in the Great American Conference. Oklahoma Baptist (9-15, 6-10) split a four-game set at home against Harding, and the week prior took three of four from UAM.
The Golden Suns have been led offensively by a pair of speedsters in
Sydnie Henson (.395) and
Bailey Bunch (.391). Eight regulars are hitting over .300 on the season, however, as the Golden Suns have already hit 28 home runs - tying the total from the 2017 season.
Megan Goodnight's seven homers lead the team, while
Makenzie Addis follows closely behind with six.
One player who has stepped up offensively has been senior
Janie Knowles, who enters the weekend with a .357 average, having pulled up her average 107 points since the start of the month of March.
Goodnight has been stellar in the circle as well, posting a 6-1 record with a 1.72 ERA.
Bailey Shaffer (6-1, 3.07 ERA) and
Kristen Dempsey (5-2, 3.20) had solid performances this past weekend.
The trio of Amanda Peterson (4-5, 3.18), Katie Long (4-2, 3.43) and Bailee Saye (1-4, 4.74) have taken the ball for the majority of innings for the Bison, while Dani Manning (.358, 6 HR, 10 RBI) has been the offensive leader for the Bison.
