RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – The Arkansas Tech Golden Suns begin conference play this week as they travel to Bethany, Okla. for a match with Southern Nazarene on Thursday, March 15, at 1 p.m. at the Kickingbird Country Club.
Reigning Great American Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Week, Annabel Rowlands, will lead Tech. Rowlands helped the Golden Suns claim a 6-3 win over Henderson State in their last match as Rowlands picked up her third singles win of the spring season with her 6-2, 6-2 win over HSU's Mariah Bartlett.
After defeating Henderson State, Arkansas Tech (5-1) has now won three straight matches. Katharina Drebka, Teresa Sanchez, Julia Schoch have all begun singles play this spring with a 4-1 record. In doubles play, the duo of Rowlands and Ward have combined for a team-leading seven victories this year, four of which have come in the spring season.
Southern Nazarene (1-4) notched its first win of the season with 9-0 win over Ouachita on Saturday. Arkansas Tech is 5-1 all-time against Crimson Storm, and have won the previous four duals. The Suns only loss to SNU came on April 13, 2013 (5-3). Last season, Tech defeated Southern Nazarene 6-3, winning two of the three doubles matches and picking up four wins on the singles side.
