BALANCED SCORING LEADS GOLDEN SUNS TO VICTORY OVER CRIMSON STORM

RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – With nine different Golden Suns scoring at least six points, Arkansas Tech earned its fifth win of at least 30 points on Thursday, defeating Southern Nazarene, 79-49. The Golden Suns have now won eight of their last nine games.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Southern Nazarene (7-13, 5-11 GAC) opened the game with a 9-4 run, but Arkansas Tech (17-3, 13-3 GAC) ended the first period on a 14-3 run to take an 18-12 advantage after the first 10 minutes.
  • The Golden Suns held the Crimson Storm scoreless for nearly eight minutes in the first and second quarters, scoring 17 of the first 19 points of the second period.
  • Tech claimed its largest lead of the half at 21 points after a layup by Lyrik Williams, but SNU cut the deficit to 38-24 at the break.
  • Arkansas Tech forced the Storm to commit 15 first-half turnovers, resulting in 16 points for the Suns.
  • The Suns' largest lead of the game at 31 points came with 1:33 to play in the third quarter when Jacie Higgins netted a fast break layup off a steal by Williams. Tech would reach a lead of 31 points on five different occasions, the last coming on a triple by Taylor Ely.
 
NOTABLES
  • Arkansas Tech secures a spot in the Great American Conference Championships with the victory. The Golden Suns are currently in second in the GAC standings, three games behind Southwestern Oklahoma.
  • Tech finished with 21 steals, the most in a conference game this season. The Suns also grabbed 56 rebounds, tied for the second most this season. Arkansas Tech's nine three-pointers are tied for a season-high.
  • The Golden Suns recorded 27 points off turnovers, and Tech outscored SNU's bench, 35-17.
  • Kylie Ladd led all players with 13 points and eight steals. She also added six rebounds and six assists. Williams followed with 10 points and four boards.
  • Cheyenne North scored just six points, but she pulled down a season-high 16 rebounds to go along with six assists.
