WONDER BOYS FALL TO JAVELINAS

WACO, TexasR.J. Glasper turned in a 21-point, seven-assist performance, but the Arkansas Tech Wonder Boys basketball team (2-8) was unable to overcome the rebounding and opportune free-throw shooting of Texas A&M-Kingsville (4-5) in an 80-70 loss on Saturday at McLennan Community College.

  • The Wonder Boys resume Great American Conference play on Thursday, Jan. 3, traveling to Durant, Okla. for a 7:30 p.m. matchup against Southeastern Oklahoma.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Javelinas opened the game on a 6-0 run over the first 3:06 of the contest.
  • Tech rallied, knotting the game at 10-10 and pulling ahead 13-10 after a Mason Cline 3-pointer with 11:03 remaining until half. 
  • TAMUK outscored Tech 16-9 over the next 6:51 to grab a 26-18 lead with 5:23 remaining until halftime. 
  • Momentum swung back toward the Wonder Boys in a big way for the remainder of the half, as Tech outscored TAMUK 12-4 over the final 3:46 (shooting 5-of-6 from the floor) to knot the game at 30-30 going into the break.
  • The Javelinas scored the first six points of the second half to go ahead 36-30 with 18:23 remaining. 
  • Tech cut its deficit to one (37-36) after a pair of free throws by Glasper, but the Javelinas stretched the lead back to nine (45-36) with 14:57 left. 
  • After Tech pulled back to within two (47-45) with 11:27 remaining, the Javelinas stretched the lead out to as many as 14 (59-45) with 7:39 to play, and held the Wonder Boys at arm's length down the stretch to hold on for the victory.

  • Glasper was the only Tech player to reach double figures in points. 
  • Tech outshot TAMUK 42.6 to 40.9 percent from the floor, with both teams shooting over 50 percent in the second half.
  • The Javelinas held a 44-32 advantage in rebounding. 
  • TAMUK made the most of its trips to the charity line, making twice as many shots as the Wonder Boys had attempts. Tech was 6-of-9 from the line while TAMUK was 18-of-23. 
  • The Javelinas held a 16-7 advantage in second-chance points, a 34-24 advantage in points in the paint, and a 20-9 advantage in points off turnovers while the Wonder Boys held a 25-11 advantage in bench points.
