SUNS FALL TO NORTHERN STATE

KANSAS CITYAlicia Mardis turned in an 11-point performance, leading the way offensively for the Arkansas Tech Golden Suns basketball team (0-2) in an 84-51 loss at the hands of Northern State (1-1) on Saturday in the final day of the Central Region Challenge.

  • The Golden Suns open the home portion of their schedule on Wednesday, Nov. 14 against Ecclesia College with a 5:30 p.m. matchup.  
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • NSU scored the first five points of the game and quickly stretched its lead to double figures (15-4) with 4:53 remaining in the opening quarter. 
  • Tech was able to pull to within seven on multiple times down the stretch, but the Wolves carried a nine-point (26-17) lead after one quarter of play. 
  • A Jacie Higgins 3-pointer with 6:54 to play in the second quarter pulled Tech to within six (30-24). 
  • NSU extended its lead to 13 (43-30) at the half.
  • Tech was able to cut the lead to ten on three occasions, pulling to within 54-44 with 2:07 remaining in the third after a Ryann Goodsell jumper, but the Wolves scored the final five points of the half to take a 15-point (59-44) lead into the fourth quarter. 
  • NSU scored the first 13 points of the fourth quarter and to build a commanding lead as the Wolves claimed the victory.  
NOTABLES
  • Tech held an 18-15 advantage in points off turnovers, and a 14-11 advantage in second-chance points – as well as an 8-0 advantage in fast-break points.
  • NSU held a 29-17 advantage in bench points.
  • Mardis was the only Golden Suns player to reach double figures, scoring her 11 points in 19 minutes of game action.
  • Higgins and Goodsell tied for the team lead with five rebounds, while Jayana Sanders had four assists to lead the Golden Suns. 
  • NSU outshot Tech 48.2 to 29.0 percent from the floor.
