TECH SWEEPS PAST RANGERS FOR FIFTH STRAIGHT WIN

ALVA, Okla.– Arkansas Tech picked up its fifth straight win as Allie Anderson's 13 kills led the Golden Suns volleyball team (13-7, 6-2 GAC) to a 3-0 sweep of Northwestern Oklahoma State (15-8, 4-4 GAC) on Friday night.

  • Arkansas Tech returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 6 as the Golden Suns travel to Weatherford, Okla. to face Southwestern Oklahoma State. A 12 p.m. match is scheduled.
HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Tech raced out to an 9-5 advantage in the opening set. 
  • NWOSU stormed back to pull to within 9-8 and later pushed the score to 11-10.
  • Arkansas Tech scored six of the next seven points to claim a 17-11 advantage.
  • The Suns closed out the set by scoring eight of the final ten points and took the set with kill by Tabitha Spray.
  • Tech rolled out to a 4-0 advantage and eventually pushed its lead to 14-9 in the second set. 
  • The Rangers cut into the lead by scoring five of the next seven points to trim the Tech lead to 16-14.
  • The Golden Suns answered by scoring five straight points, highlighted by an Anderson kill to make the score 21-14.
  • NWOSU rallied to score three straight points (21-17), but found their attempt to rally foiled by Tech as the Suns closed out the set by scoring four of the final six points to take a 2-0 lead.
  • Tech opened with an 4-1 lead in the third set. 
  • NWOSU rallied to tie the set at 6-6 and managed to keep the game tied at 7-7, 8-8 and 9-9, but the Golden Suns were able to break a 9-9 tie with a 5-1 run to pull ahead 14-10. 
  • The Rangers score back-to-back points to cut the lead to 15-13, however the Golden Suns score seven unanswered points to take a 22-13 advantage.
  • With the score at 24-15, a kill by Spray sealed the 3-0 win. 
NOTABLES
  • Spray hit .500 with 12 kills, while Hunter Eshnaur hit .391 with 12 kills. 
  • Emily Acker had a 38-assist and eight dig performance. 
  • Darnell led Tech with 11 digs.
  • Tech had six blocks to NWOSU's two, and forced 14 Ranger attacking errors.
  • The Golden Suns outhit Northwestern Oklahoma .391 to .149.
