RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. — The Arkansas Tech women's tennis team put together a strong showing at the Great American Conference Individual Championships as two doubles teams advanced to the semifinals, while Annabel Rowlands advanced to the Flight 5 singles finals on Saturday at the Chartwells Athletic Complex.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED

• Annabel Rowlands was the only Golden Sun player to win both matches as the senior will play for the Flight 5 Championship Sunday at 12:15 p.m. Rowlands downed Lindsay Gills (OUA), 6-0, 6-1, in the first round before winning in straights sets over Sarah Dinovic (SE), 6-3, 6-2. She will play Serena Gill (SAU) in the championship match.
• After dropping her opening match 6-1, 7-5 to Arisa Takanashi, Katharina Drebka rallied to secure a spot in the Flight 1 singles consolation semifinals after defeating Mallory Tabler (OUA) 8-1.
• Teresa Sanchez opened the GAC Individual Championships with a 7-5, 7-5 win over Chiara Berg. Sanchez later fell 6-1, 6-0 to Rylie Cox (HU) before defeating Kim Moosbacher (OKB) 8-4 to advance to the Flight 1 singles consolation semifinals.
• In Flight 3 singles, Kami Ward defeated Nina Sergeev (SE) 6-3, 6-4 to advance to the semifinals where she fell 6-3, 6-2 to Alex Bowers (OKB).
• After dropping a hard-fought match 6-3, 2-6, 10-6 to Jordan Shaw (HU), Katie Harris rallied to defeat Allison Jenkins (HU) 8-2 to advance to the Flight 6 singles consolation finals.
• Both Haeleigh Long and Alejandra Sanchez advanced to the Flight 7 semifinals after Long defeated Corbie Adams (HSU) 6-1, 6-2 and Sanchez defeated Alina Ivanova (HU) 6-2, 6-0.
• In doubles play, the duo of Ward and Rowlands won their match 6-3 against Folse/L. Carpenter (HU) to advance to the Flight 1/2 semifinals.
• The Golden Sun pair of Megan Bell and T. Sanchez won their opening match 6-1 against Bartlett/Miller (HSU), but fell 7-5 to Cox/Takanashi (HU) in their second match.
• In Flight 3/4 doubles, A. Sanchez and Drebka defeated Young/Ivanova (HU) 6-2 and Cannon/Hansard 6-3 to advance the semifinals.
