SEARCY, Ark. –
Ke'Vonshaye Stackhouse turned in a game-high 22 points with six rebounds and
Jayana Sanders added 20 more as the Arkansas Tech Golden Suns basketball team (11-2, 7-2 Great American Conference) rolled to a 77-64 win over Harding (6-11, 2-7) on Monday night at Rhodes-Reaves Field House.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The two teams traded baskets over the first five minutes of the contest, with Harding opening up a four-point lead (12-8) at the 5:17 mark of the first quarter.
- Tech rallied to take a 13-12 lead less than a minute later.
- The Golden Suns stretched the lead out to seven points (21-14) with 1:57 remaining in the opening quarter.
- Tech continued to push ahead, grabbing a ten-point (26-16) advantage at the end of the opening quarter.
- Harding controlled the opening minutes of the second quarter. After a pair of Tech free-throws pushed the Golden Suns ahead by 12 (28-16), Harding used a 6-0 run to cut the Tech advantage to six (28-22) before Ke'Vonshaye Stackhouse's 3-pointer stopped the Harding streak.
- Harding answered with a 3-pointer of their own on the next possession to cut the Tech lead back to six (31-25) with 5:22 remaining before the half.
- The Golden Suns entered the half with an eight-point (41-33) advantage.
- A 3-pointer by Ke'Vonshaye Stackhouse at the 8:27 mark of the third quarter stretched the Golden Suns' lead to 13 (48-35), the largest Tech lead of the contest to that point.
- Harding was able to cut the Tech advantage to single digits (48-39) with 6:10 to play in the quarter, but a Kylie Ladd 3-pointer followed by a Ryann Goodsell layup gave the Golden Suns a 14-point (53-39) lead with 4:49 on the clock.
- The Golden Suns continued to stretch the lead throughout the third quarter, opening up a 19-point (62-43) lead with 1:50 remaining in the third quarter.
- Harding was able to narrow the deficit to 17 points (64-47) at the end of the third quarter.
- Tech pushed the lead to 19 three times in the fourth quarter, but Harding cut the deficit to 14 (73-59) with 2:58 remaining and forced a Tech timeout.
- Harding would get no closer than 13 as Tech held on for the 77-64 win.
