ARKADELPHIA, Ark. –
Alex Brown and
Harris Brown both turned in 20-point performances,
Montrell Williams grabbed 11 rebounds, but the Arkansas Tech Wonder Boys basketball team (10-3, 4-3 Great American Conference) was unable to overcome solid free throw shooting and a 27-8 Reddie advantage in trips to the charity stripe as Henderson State (7-6, 2-5) downed the Wonder Boys 106-96 on Thursday at the Duke Wells Center.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Reddies controlled the early minutes of the contest, opening up a 7-2 lead over the first two minutes.
- Henderson pushed ahead by 11 points (26-15) after a 3-pointer by Tanner Hamilton at the 13:40 mark of the opening half.
- Tech was able to cut the HSU lead to seven (28-21) at the 12:33 mark after Alex Brown converted a 3-point play.
- Tech continued to narrow the gap, outscoring HSU 8-2 over a three-minute stretch to pull to within two (30-28) with 9:43 remaining in the half.
- Jerami Grace buried a 3-pointer at the 9:09 mark to give Tech its first lead of the contest at 31-30.
- Tech and HSU traded leads over the next four minutes before the Reddies used a 7-0 run to claim a five-point (43-38) advantage at the 3:48 mark of the opening half, leading into the media timeout.
- Freddy Lee buried a 3-pointer with 1.2 seconds remaining to send Tech into the half down by two points (53-51).
- Harris Brown's 3-pointer to open the half gave Tech a 54-53 lead.
- HSU reclaimed the lead on the next possession, but the Wonder Boys went back ahead at the 17:36 mark after a free throw by Montrell Williams.
- Tech pulled ahead by as many as six (69-63) after a 3-pointer than Mason Cline with 14:15 to play.
- Henderson rallied to reclaim the lead at the 11:20 mark.
- The Reddies unleashed a 10-0 run to take an 11-point (86-75) lead with 7:58 to play.
- After Henderson stretched its lead to 14 (93-79) with 4:48 remaining, Tech used a 9-0 run to pull back within five (93-88) with 3:46 to play.
- However, the Reddies held Tech at arm's length and held on for the win.
NOTABLES
- Four Wonder Boys reached double figures in points – Mason Cline added 15 points and RJ Glasper added 13 points.
- Glasper added six boards and five assists for the Wonder Boys.
- Montrell Williams turned in a team-high 11 rebounds.
- HSU outrebounded Tech 49-43.
- The Reddies made the most of their second chances, outscoring Tech 28-12 on second-chance buckets.
- Both teams played efficiently on the offensive end of the court, as HSU had just eight turnovers and Tech had just 11.
- Tech's 17 3-pointers finished two shy of tying the Arkansas Tech single-game record.
