RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. – Arkansas Tech volleyball will begin play in the Great American Conference on Tuesday, as the Golden Suns travel to Magnolia, Ark. for a 6 p.m. match against Southern Arkansas. Tech is looking to extend its season-opening win streak to 10 games.
Arkansas Tech (9-0) has started the season with nine consecutive wins for just the second time in program history after picking up three wins in Joplin, Mo. last weekend. The Golden Suns have dropped just two sets this season and have won 18 consecutive sets since losing the first set to Drury on Sept. 2.
Tech currently leads the GAC with a .308 hitting percentage while the Suns have held opponents to hit just .092, also first in the conference. Arkansas Tech ranks first in the GAC in assists (13.62), second in blocks (2.17) and third in aces (1.79).
Hunter Eshnaur paces the Golden Suns with 3.31 kills per set, and
Lexie Johnston leads Tech and the GAC with a .404 hitting percentage.
Amanda Milnick's 10.23 assists per set tops the conference, and
Greer Rogers averages a GAC-best 1.23 blocks per set.
Southern Arkansas (3-8) has lost four consecutive matches entering the conference contest on Tuesday night. The Lady Muleriders are hitting .142 this season, while opponents have hit .225. Seven Powers leads SAU with 2.06 kills per set, followed by Madi Pfeifer's 2.05 kills per set and team-high .266 hitting percentage.
Arkansas Tech is 36-29 all-time against Southern Arkansas, including two straight-set wins last season.
